Recently, the members of our Special Student Association (SSA) took a well-deserved break from the grueling heat of South Florida training for a weekend of brotherhood, nature, and relaxation in Kissimmee, Florida.

Who is the SSA?

For those who may not know, the SSA is the backbone of our regional Ving Tsun community. These dedicated practitioners don’t just train for themselves; they help manage the school, assist in teaching classes, and work tirelessly to spread the art of Ving Tsun throughout the Southeastern region of Florida.

Whether it’s mentoring a new student or ensuring the lineage of Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop is represented with excellence, these individuals work incredibly hard. But even the most dedicated martial artist needs to "empty their cup" once in a while.

The Kissimmee trip was designed to be the perfect antidote to the "grind." Surrounded by the towering cypress trees and the quiet energy of the Florida wilderness, our team traded their Kung Fu uniforms for camping gear.

There is an old proverb in the martial arts world: “Kung Fu lives in the family.” This past holiday season, the spirit of that family was on full display as students from our Vero Beach, Palm City, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie locations traveled from across the Treasure Coast to gather at our North America headquarters. This wasn't just a holiday meal; it was a celebration of Kung Fu Life—the practice of taking the discipline, focus, and heart we cultivate on the mats and applying it to how we treat one another and our community.

It was an evening filled with laughter, incredible food, and deep appreciation for the bonds we built throughout 2025.

A Gift for Sifu: Setting Sail for the Bahamas

Through the collective contributions of the class, Albert presented Sifu with a 4-day cruise to the Bahamas! No Kung Fu celebration is complete without the energy of the Lion. As the end of the year approaches and the festive spirit of the Holidays and New Year fills the air, we at Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun Kung Fu always cherish the tradition of gathering our students for a special Holiday/Christmas Dinner. It's a vital opportunity to strengthen the bonds of our Kung Fu family outside of the Kwoon (training hall).

This year, due to the distance between our various locations, we were delighted to host a dedicated dinner for our fantastic group of students in Fort Lauderdale, Florida!

A Delicious Gathering in Fort Lauderdale

The dinner was a fantastic success, bringing together our dedicated Ving Tsun practitioners for an evening of great food and even better company.

A huge thank you goes to Naomi, a diligent student from our Fort Lauderdale branch, who stepped up and worked tirelessly with her older Kung Fu brother Cesar and our Sifu to organize the event. Their planning led us to a local favorite: Hong Kong City BBQ, known for its authentic and delicious Dim Sum. Naomi, we truly appreciate your excellent organizational efforts!

The food was phenomenal, but the best part was the relaxed and joyful atmosphere. It was wonderful to see students of all experience levels sharing stories, laughing, and building relationships beyond the structure of class time. Students enjoyed quality time connecting with both their Sifu and with Cesar, who is instrumental in helping run and manage our Fort Lauderdale classes.

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a beach barbeque to honor our students' hard work and commitment to the art of Moy Yee Hop Kung Fu. It was a joyous occasion filled with camaraderie, good food, and even better company. Cesar Gonzalez, one of the event organizers, added an exciting touch to our Beach Barbeque by organizing a raffle. Chinese New Year is not only a time for celebration and family gatherings, but also an opportunity for our Kung Fu family to come together and honor our traditions.

Recently, we held a formal dinner to mark the arrival of the 2024 Year of the Dragon and to celebrate the birthday of our beloved Sifu.

Tommy Rozycki, a senior student of our Kung Fu family, hosted the event and made sure everything was organized and running smoothly. He communicated the itinerary for the evening and made sure everyone was comfortable.

James Keller delivered a compelling discourse on the significance of observing a Sifu's birthday celebration amongst Kung Fu practitioners. His enlightening presentation delved into vital aspects of Kung fu etiquette and time-honored traditions that had been meticulously passed down through generations. The informative speech was highly appreciated by all present attendees, culminating in an enthusiastic round of applause.

Albert Lund delivered a well-versed discourse on the significance of observing Chinese New Year and its relevance to our Kung Fu community.

In his address, he explored the profound symbolism of 'The Year of The Dragon' while providing an enriched historical context and detailed insights surrounding this auspicious holiday.

The dining experience at the Golden Pavilion Restaurant was highly enjoyed by the students, who were thoroughly impressed by its extensive array of delightful Chinese cuisine. Featuring well-renowned dishes such as lobster alongside other popular favorites, the restaurant aptly met everyone's dinner expectations.

The dinner included multiple vegetarian and vegan options that furthered this satisfaction, catering to our substantial demographic of vegetarian and vegan students with resounding success.

Towards the conclusion of the dinner, our first ever Lion Dance performance was brilliantly executed by dedicated students Padma, Eiman, Devon, Kosta and Albert.

The culmination of their diligent practice and commitment translated into an exemplary performance that was greatly appreciated by all those present at the event.

After the Lion Dance performance, Sifu James, assisted by his Kung Fu brothers and devoted students who aid him in instructing classes, conducted a noteworthy awards ceremony

Our Kung Fu family likes to recognize students and instructors who really go out of their way to make our classes great. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the ceaseless dedication displayed by both our students and instructors. Their daily commitment not only fosters growth within themselves but also contributes significantly towards bolstering the bond of camaraderie so distinctively prevalent within our Kung Fu family.

During the Award Ceremony, two distinguished awards were presented:

The Leadership Award was purposed to acknowledge those instructors who consistently exhibit extraordinary effort in sharing their knowledge of Ving Tsun within our classes and workshops. Their endeavours are instrumental in spreading and sharing the unique and beautiful art of Ving Tsun Kung Fu for future generations to enjoy.

In addition, an Above and Beyond award was conferred on those student whom instructors perceived as particular standouts for their exceptional training and efforts during their classes. These diligent trainees have established an infectious culture of positivity that undeniably enhances the overall classroom experience.

In summary, our Chinese New Year Dinner and Award Ceremony was a resounding success, and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success. We recently had the joy and privilege of hosting our annual Kung Fu Family Christmas Dinner, a special occasion that has become a cherished tradition for our Kung Fu family. This event offers us an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate not only the holiday season, but also the bonds we have formed through our shared passion for Ving Tsun Kung Fu.

The evening started with a warm reception as our members and their families gather at the beautifully adorned Gold Pavilion Chinese Restaurant in Jupiter. Sifu, along with many students, are regular patrons of the restaurant and have developed a close relationship with manager Fanny, who has graciously accommodated numerous events for our Kung Fu family over the years. The restaurant's presence of traditional Chinese decorations adds to the festive ambiance, evoking a sense of cultural pride and heritage. Dedicated student Paul played a crucial role by bringing Christmas decorations, while senior student Jim, a long with Michael and Albert warmly welcomed arriving students and escorted them to their seats. Eli and his wife kindly took pictures of all those in attendance. We strive to create a space and atmosphere that aligns with the values and spirit of our Kung Fu family, ensuring everyone feels welcome and included.

As the dinner commenced, we indulge in a sumptuous feast, featuring a delectable fusion of traditional Chinese cuisine and holiday favorites. The menu is carefully curated to cater to a diverse range of tastes and dietary preferences, ensuring that everyone feels included and can fully enjoy the culinary experience. It is a time of culinary exploration and appreciation, as we savor the flavors and textures of each dish.

Beyond the delicious food, the highlight of the evening is the sense of camaraderie and connection that fills the air. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude for one another and to acknowledge the progress and growth we have achieved as individuals and as a collective. It is a moment of reflection and celebration, as we recognize the dedication and discipline it takes to practice and learn the art of Ving Tsun Kung Fu.

The evening concludes with heartfelt speeches and expressions of appreciation. We recognize the dedication and support of our instructors, whose guidance and expertise have shaped us into the individuals we have become. Recently, students had a great opportunity to expand their Ving Tsun knowledge and experience by traveling with their Sifu to visit Sifu Troy's adult Kung Fu class at Palm Beach Wing Chun. This excellent opportunity allowed students to witness firsthand the expertise and teachings of Sifu Troy, a respected practitioner in our Kung Fu family and good Kung Fu brother of their Sifu.

The visit began with a warm welcome from Sifu Troy and his dedicated students, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual respect. Throughout the visit, students were able to observe and partake in a variety of training sessions, ranging from fundamental drills to more advance Chi Sao practice.

Under the guidance of Sifu Troy, students were further enlightened on the intricacies and practical applications of Ving Tsun. Through various drills, Chi Sao exchanges, and engaging discussions, they gained invaluable insights that deepened their understanding and skill set.

The visit also provided a unique opportunity for students to train alongside Sifu Troy's talented students, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Through exchanging ideas and techniques, students were able to enhance their own development and broaden their perspectives.

Moreover, the visit to Palm Beach Wing Chun allowed students to immerse themselves in a different training environment, exposing them to new training methodologies and perspectives.

This exposure played a significant role in their personal growth as martial artists, helping them refine their techniques and cultivate a well-rounded approach to Ving Tsun.

Overall, the experience of traveling with their esteemed Sifu and visiting Sifu Troy's class at Palm Beach Wing Chun was nothing short of remarkable. A Memorable Beach and Barbeque Gathering: Students Come Together from Across South Florida to Unwind

Kung Fu students from all of our South Florida locations came together in Jupiter, Florida for a special beach and barbeque gathering. This highly anticipated event provided an opportunity for relaxation and fun in the beautiful coastal town of Jupiter. To ensure that everyone could attend, all Saturday classes across our locations were canceled for the day.

The festivities kicked off early in the morning as students arrived at the park to set up and decorate the pavilions next to the beach. Tables were also set up next to the grills so that students could bring their own potluck dishes. As more students arrived, there was a sense of excitement in the air as everyone soaked up the sun and mingled with one another. Laughter and chatter filled the atmosphere as beach chairs were unfolded and towels were laid out on the golden sand.

Without a doubt, the highlight of this gathering was the amazing barbeque feast that awaited everyone. The aroma of sizzling burgers and hotdogs filled the air, while mouthwatering grilled vegetables added to the tantalizing scent. We made sure to have vegetarian options available as well, ensuring that everyone's culinary preferences were catered to. Students eagerly lined up for their chance to sample these delicious creations, creating a true feast for both their taste buds and senses.

Throughout the day, many students took advantage of being at Jupiter Beach by enjoying time in the water with fellow classmates or spending quality time with their families. It was a day filled with joyous moments and unforgettable memories against a backdrop of sun-soaked shores and laughter-filled conversations.

During the event, students had the opportunity to establish connections and cultivate new friendships with their fellow Kung Fu practitioners and instructors from all of our training locations across South Florida. The gathering served as a unique platform for networking and exchanging ideas, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie among all attendees.

As the event drew to a close, students assembled on the beach for a group photo, capturing the momentous occasion alongside their fellow students and instructors who were present. It was truly a magical moment, uniting everyone as part of an exceptional Kung Fu family.

The beach and barbeque gathering in Jupiter proved to be an unforgettable experience for all those in attendance. It provided a much-needed break from the usual routine of Kung Fu classes while allowing students to create cherished memories and form meaningful bonds. We are thrilled to share the incredible success we had recently at the Mid Florida Event Center Back to School event, and it's all thanks to our amazing students who volunteered to promote our Ving Tsun Kung Fu Mo-gwoon. Their dedication and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, and their hard work paid off in a big way.

Our students did an outstanding job at the event. They set up a booth that showcased informative flyers and displays about our new after school program and other classes. But their efforts didn't stop there. They went above and beyond by actively engaging with attendees, answering questions, and even sharing personal stories of how learning Kung Fu has benefited them at our Mo-gwoon. Their enthusiasm for Kung Fu was infectious and left a lasting impression on everyone who visited our booth.

Not only did our students help promote our Kung Fu school, but they also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among themselves. They worked harmoniously, supporting and encouraging one another throughout the event. Witnessing their unity and professionalism was truly heartwarming.

Thanks to their incredible dedication and hard work, we successfully attracted a significant number of new students to our school. We were able to share our knowledge and passion for Kung Fu with a fresh group of individuals, which we are extremely grateful for.

It was a joyous occasion this week when our Kung Fu family gathered together to celebrate the birthday of their Si-gung Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop. All of us—students and instructors from all across South Florida—met up at Cana restaurant in Lake Worth, FL for a night of great food, laughter, and conversation. It's moments like these that make us feel proud to be part of this amazing Kung Fu family.

Si-gung has shared the art of Ving Tsun Kung Fu with our Kung Fu family for so long. He always made sure we had a place to practice and always been available when students need guidance. He is truly devoted to teaching, and we'd like to thank him by celebrating his commitment and dedication. During the event, we expressed our appreciation for all of Si-gung's hard work!

At the dinner, we experienced something special: Kung Fu students performing the lion dance. It's been tradition to do this every year for Si-gungs birthday celebration! We're fortunate to have the privilege of witnessing such a beautiful display, and it brings us lots of joy.

We all had a fantastic time at the event that our Kung Fu uncle Si-suk Evan so thoughtfully organized! He chose the perfect spot and the food was delicious. Everyone was in high spirits, thanks to Si-suk's hard work. It's clear that he put a lot of effort into organizing this memorable event!

It was an absolutely wonderful evening that won't be forgotten anytime soon. We'd like to extend our sincerest appreciation to everyone who put in the time and energy to make it a success. Thank you so much for your support and hard work! Let's look forward to many more enjoyable gatherings like this in the future!

Our Kung Fu trip to Dominican Republic: An Unforgettable Experience

In May 2023, members of the Fort Lauderdale and Port Saint Lucie branches of the Moy Yee Hop Kung Fu family made a journey with their teacher Sifu James and assistant instructor Si-suk Torch to the Dominican Republic. Their primary mission was to meet their Si-gung, Julian Cordero ( Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop ), and obtain further knowledge about the Ving Tsun Kung fu system. In addition, they were eager to connect with their fellow kung fu students abroad.

Upon arriving at their destination, the students were warmly greeted by Si-gung who offered them his assistance. In turn, this exceptional experience provided invaluable insight into Kung Fu life and the Ving Tsun Kung fu system which enabled personal growth for all involved. A remarkable visit filled with unforgettable moments that will stay with these students forever.

The students had an incredible experience in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. From the stunning beaches and local attractions to the rich culture and mouth-watering cuisine, every minute was filled with memorable moments. The hospitality they received from Si-gung and the warmth of the locals created a strong bond between all participants.

During their stay in the Dominican Republic, the students had the opportunity to hone their martial arts skills in Ving Tsun Kung Fu at the local Mo-gwoon and learn directly from Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop. The Grandmaster has been taught by Patriarch Moy Yat himself and was grateful to share his knowledge with his students. From him, they learned not only about the basics of Kung Fu as well as the history and importance of good kung fu etiquette, but also about the value of respect and teamwork needed for a successful training session. With these lessons, the students went back home with a newfound appreciation for this martial art.

The Kung Fu students in the Dominican Republic completed their experience with a visit to El Limon waterfall. Venturing through a lush jungle path, they finally arrived at the majestic tall waterfall surrounded by dense vegetation and a bright blue sky.

The group decided to partake in an exciting activity together-jumping into one of the rock pools behind the waterfall. Submerged in the pool, they experienced a feeling of total freedom and relaxation.

The thundering waterfall was not only symbolic for the skills, strength, and agility acquired from Kung Fu training; it was also an incredible way to end this extraordinary experience. The students left with a newfound appreciation and respect for Kung Fu as well as for Dominican Republic itself.

The Kung Fu journey to the Dominican Republic was an incredible experience for the students. They not only learned the art of Kung Fu, but they also immersed themselves in a vibrant culture and connected with some amazing people. From strolling through Las Terrenas and Playa Bonitas beachfronts to visiting El Limon waterfall on horseback and exploring coffee and cacao plantations, there were plenty of opportunities to experience all that the Dominican Republic has to offer.

Beyond these activities, however, something truly special happened during the trip: unbreakable bonds formed between everyone who went, creating unforgettable memories that will last forever. As they returned home filled with joy and gratitude for their adventure, each student shared a newfound appreciation for this unique part of the world.
