Bonding Beyond the Training Hall: The SSA Takes on Kissimmee!

At Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun Kung Fu, our Kung Fu is about more than just punches, kicks, and forms—it is about family.

Recently, the members of our Special Student Association (SSA) took a well-deserved break from the grueling heat of South Florida training for a weekend of brotherhood, nature, and relaxation in Kissimmee, Florida.

Who is the SSA?

For those who may not know, the SSA is the backbone of our regional Ving Tsun community. These dedicated practitioners don’t just train for themselves; they help manage the school, assist in teaching classes, and work tirelessly to spread the art of Ving Tsun throughout the Southeastern region of Florida.

Whether it’s mentoring a new student or ensuring the lineage of Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop is represented with excellence, these individuals work incredibly hard. But even the most dedicated martial artist needs to "empty their cup" once in a while.

Adventure in the Heart of Florida

The Kissimmee trip was designed to be the perfect antidote to the "grind." Surrounded by the towering cypress trees and the quiet energy of the Florida wilderness, our team traded their Kung Fu uniforms for camping gear.

The weekend was filled with:

Team Bonding: From setting up camp to sharing stories around the fire, the trip allowed our leaders to connect on a personal level away from the wooden dummy and the mats.

Building Camaraderie: In Ving Tsun, we often talk about the "Kung Fu Family." This trip solidified those bonds. When we trust the person standing next to us in the woods, that trust carries back into the school.

Recharging the Spirit: Managing and teaching a martial art requires immense mental and physical energy. The peace of the Kissimmee landscape provided the perfect backdrop for our team to reset so they can continue serving our students with passion.

Why We Do It

We believe that a strong school is built on strong relationships. By taking the time to celebrate our SSA team’s hard work, we ensure that the culture of Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun remains vibrant, supportive, and unified.

The laughter shared over the campfire and the memories made in the Florida wild have brought us back to the South Florida region stronger than ever.

At Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun Kung Fu, we often speak about "Kung Fu Life." It is the idea that our practice extends far beyond the four walls of the Kwoon and into the way we live, how we treat others, and how we celebrate the bonds of our martial arts family. Recently, our community had a very special reason to gather: the birthday of our teacher and mentor, Sifu James Hindman.

As the end of the year approaches and the festive spirit of the Holidays and New Year fills the air, we at Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun Kung Fu always cherish the tradition of gathering our students for a special Holiday/Christmas Dinner. It's a vital opportunity to strengthen the bonds of our Kung Fu family outside of the Kwoon (training hall). This year, due to the distance between our various locations, we were delighted to host a dedicated dinner for our fantastic group of students in Fort Lauderdale, Florida!
