Celebrating Sifu James Hindman: A Birthday to Remember

At Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun Kung Fu, we often speak about "Kung Fu Life." It is the idea that our practice extends far beyond the four walls of the Kwoon and into the way we live, how we treat others, and how we celebrate the bonds of our martial arts family.

Recently, our community had a very special reason to gather: the birthday of our teacher and mentor, Sifu James Hindman.

A Night of Brotherhood at Peking Chinese Restaurant

The celebration was held at the Peking Chinese Restaurant in Fort Pierce, a fitting backdrop for an evening rooted in tradition. It was a night filled with laughter, storytelling, and, of course, an incredible feast.

Whether it was students from our Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, or Fort Lauderdale locations, the room was a testament to the growing lineage and the positive impact Sifu James has had on so many lives across South East Florida. Seeing Sifu surrounded by his students—from those just beginning their journey to his senior disciples—was a powerful reminder of why we work so hard to keep the Moy Yee Hop Ving Tsun tradition alive.

Words of Wisdom: Speeches from Senior Students

One of the most moving highlights of the evening was the series of speeches delivered by Sifu’s senior students. Taking turns at the table, these practitioners shared personal stories of how Sifu’s guidance has shaped not only their Kung Fu but their characters outside the school.

The speeches touched on:

  • The Power of Lineage: Reflecting on the importance of maintaining the "Pure Ving Tsun" passed down from Grandmaster Moy Yee Hop.
  • Personal Growth: Stories of how Sifu’s patience and discipline helped students overcome challenges in their professional and personal lives.
  • The Future: A collective commitment from the senior ranks to continue supporting Sifu and ensuring the school thrives for generations to come.

Hearing these heartfelt tributes underscored the deep respect the senior class has for Sifu James's mastery and his tireless dedication to his students.

A Special Thank You to Michael Wing

An event of this magnitude doesn’t happen by accident. We want to extend a massive "Thank You" and a deep bow of respect to Michael Wing, who organized the entire event.

From coordinating the venue to ensuring every detail was perfect, Michael’s hard work allowed Sifu James and the rest of the Kung Fu family to simply enjoy the moment. Organizing a gathering like this is a true labor of love and a perfect example of the respect, discipline, honor and culture we strive to cultivate in our school. Michael, your dedication to your Sifu and your brothers and sisters in the art made this a night to remember.

Looking Ahead

As we look back on the memories from the night, we are reminded that Kung Fu is about more than just technique—it is about the people you stand beside. We are honored to train under Sifu James Hindman and look forward to many more years of his guidance, wisdom, and leadership.

Happy Birthday, Sifu!
